What Thiago Silva is doing during international break as Chelsea star targets Real Madrid return

Thiago Silva is keeping himself busy at Cobham training ground during the international break. The 38-year-old has posted an image to his Instagram story of what appears to be a Chelsea academy game.

With the veteran defender watching from the sidelines, the Blues youngsters will be desperate to impress. The age group or team which Chelsea are up against remains to be seen however, upon Silva's arrival nearly three-years ago, the Brazil international's wife suggested that his son, Lago, has also joined the west London outfit.

Belle Silva posted a video on Twitter showing how excited their son is to be also joining Chelsea, with clips of the youngster showcasing his skills in the official Blues gear on the training ground. From Silva's latest Instagram story, it remains to be seen whether he was watching his son or simply showing face while passing.

The Brazilian has been working hard at Cobham recently as he continues to nurse a knee injury which he sustained in last month's defeat to Tottenham. It's said that Silva is targeting a return against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final next month.

With the blockbuster tie just a few weeks away, the centre-half posted an update on his Instagram. The picture was of Silva wearing a device over his left knee with his wife in the background. The caption read: "Minha fisioterapeuta [my physiotherapist]."

In February, Silva extended his contract with Chelsea until the end of next season. He has played a huge role in the Blues' success since joining on a free from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, winning the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

"I am honestly so happy to continue my career with the Blues," he told the official Blues website after putting pen to paper. "When I signed my first contract here, it was to just do one year. Now it is already the fourth! I could not have imagined that, but really it is a very special moment for me to sign and stay at Chelsea."

Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali were just as delighted to see the defender extend his stay. In a joint-statement, they said: "We're delighted that Thiago has decided to continue with Chelsea.

"He’s a world-class talent, as he’s proven over many years for club and country, and his experience, quality and leadership skills are vital to our vision going forward. We’re thrilled he has extended his contract with us and we look forward to more success with him ahead."
