Thiago Silva has come to the defence of new teammate Enzo Fernandez after the Argentine was outdone by Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi.
The attacker latched onto a loose ball and ran the length of the pitch, taking on Fernandez and Kepa Arrizabalaga to score the game's only goal in a 1-0 win on Wednesday. Adeyemi's drive and finish was a smash-and-grab for the home side in the second half after a period of sustained Chelsea pressure.
Fernandez, who had been left as the last man back from a corner, was caught out by the speed and directness of Adeyemi, who was quicker to the dropping ball than Mykhailo Mudryk and Thiago Silva as the Blues failed to capitalise on their own corner.

The result means it is just two wins in 14 matches for Graham Potter's side who are struggling to score goals this season and have just two in their last five matches.
Silva, who impressed on the night, has jumped to defend Fernandez on social media after getting criticism for his role in the goal.
Brazilian page tntsports posted an image of the World Cup-winning midfielder captioned: "Call the Uber! Enzo Fernandez is looking for Adeyemi so far."
Silva has shown his frustration at the publication from his home country and replied to the post, "[Translated] Lack of respect, huh!!! Be more serious with your work."
The defender was also Chelsea's captain on the night and was remarkably twice the age of Dortmund skipper Jude Bellingham. His demonstration of support for 22-year-old Fernandez is just further proof of his leadership on and off the field.
