Having Sunday away from the Cobham training pitches was always the plan but news of a second consecutive day off after a crucial loss caught many supporters off guard.
The Blues play the final Premier League game of the weekend in a London derby against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Given the scheduling of their next match, perhaps Potter sees it as the ideal chance for his players to go away and refresh themselves, physically and mentally, after what has been a gruelling period for the squad.
Two defeats in two separate competitions in the last week have seen pressure mount on Potter in west London. The Chelsea boss watched on as his side failed to score for the fourth time in their last five games, despite having numerous chances.
