‘What the thrift gods will bestow’: Minnesota woman thought she had found curtains in a Goodwill bin, only for her $10 purchase to be worth $1000

Every thrifter dreams of pulling a hidden gem out of a pile of discarded items. That is exactly what happened to a Goodwill shopper in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Stephanie (@stephxthrift), a vintage and clothing reseller, recently went viral on Instagram after discovering a high-end dress in the bins at a local Goodwill Outlet. In a post that has racked up 1.9 million views, Stephanie shared her journey of finding what she initially mistook for a set of curtains.

Her video starts with her walking with a large pile of fabric in her arms. The onscreen text poses the thrifter dream: “Did I just find a $1000 dress at the Goodwill Outlet bins??” As she pans over her find, she superimposed a screenshot of the dress from the brand Fanciful Doll’s official website, which lists the item for $1,030. The final reveal shows her wearing the dress, twirling around and looking incredibly joyful, with the simple, triumphant onscreen text: “Yes, I did.”
