‘What the hell is this?’: Miami mom takes daughter to Ulta to get hair tinsel. She can’t believe how they let her walk out

A Miami woman was shocked to see her daughter’s hair after a trip to Ulta to apply hair tinsel went wrong. That’s because instead of giving her daughter an even-looking application, they ended up putting “beads” of stringy tinsel in her hair.

TikToker Giselle (@giiiiselle__) wrote that her daughter got the “Temu version” of tinsel during a trip to Ulta in a video with over 112,000 views. The truly egregious hair styling, which commenters said was “unacceptable,” was incorrectly applied. According to Giselle, the bonds in the hair were folded in correctly, which made them not lay flat on her daughter’s scalp. That resulted in a look that didn’t match expectations.

A hair tinsel application gone wrong

When Giselle took her daughter to get a hair tinsel application at Ulta, she was expecting a smooth application.

But, as she and her daughter left the store, she realized an Ulta hairstylist incorrectly applied tinsel to her daughter’s hair. Instead of having blended in “fairy hair,” her daughter had clumps near her scalp. Giselle claimed in the comments that the stylist placed the tinsel sideways, which meant that the tinsel couldn’t naturally blend into her daughter’s hair.

Instead, it barely shone through her natural locks. The bonds were “jumping” off of her scalp, which made her hair essentially untouchable. Plus, the hairstylist crimped the beads, making it extremely difficult to adjust or change after the fact. Commenters added that Giselle would need to squeeze the beads flat if she wanted to fix it.

“ I can’t even like brush this to make this look normal. Like it’s, it’s not, it’s not falling flat on her head,” Giselle said. In her video, she shared that she would try to fix the hair styling at home using a pair of pliers. She was, however, extremely disappointed with the way they looked coming out of Ulta.

“ This is insane and totally unacceptable in my opinion. I even paid for a second round, so $30. Each one was $15 because the first round she’s like, ‘Mom, like I can’t like see anything.’ Like there’s three little strands of tinsel,” Giselle said.

Commenters question the decision to keep the tinsel

While many viewers felt sympathy for the family, others mentioned how traumatizing it might be for Giselle’s daughter to hear or see just how bad the tinsel is. “Maybe not say how bad it is right in front of her. That’ll give her a complex,” said one viewer.

Another commenter mentioned that by not immediately getting the hair tinsel removed, Giselle was effectively leaving her daughter in a particularly messy bind. “You have to speak up,” they added.

But Giselle mentioned that her daughter wanted to make a video exposing her hair. And, it’s reasonable to assume she might not trust Ulta’s staff to handle her daughter’s hair after the first two $15 treatments resulted in a mess.

The confusion as to why she left the store with the badly applied tinsel continued, but some viewers simply focused on her daughter’s current state. They urged her to consider dropping by the store to get the tinsel reapplied at that store or a different one, even if that meant getting another employee.

“I work at Ulta. That’s not acceptable !!! Go back and tell them to reapply !!!! It’s sad that no one called it out. I always call out the bad services so they can get it fixed before they leave,” another TikToker shared.

Since posting, Giselle hasn’t given any specific video updates notifying her audience if Ulta removed and re-applied the tinsel.
