Sabyasachi Mukherjee built a brand on a single uncomfortable premise: that the Indian woman had been talked out of her own aesthetic. The heavily embroidered blouses, the unbleached cotton, the Bengal-weight silks in colours that look like they were pulled from a zardozi archive, none of it is accidental. Every collection is an argument. The argument is that modernity was never supposed to mean abandoning what came before it.
