What's special about Chelsea's kit as they face Crystal Palace following Club World Cup glory

Chelsea return to Premier League football at Selhurst Park this afternoon looking to cement their place in the top four.

The Blues have not played in the competition since their win over Tottenham in January and their tops will look slightly different on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea have earned the right to wear a gold badge on their shirts for the first time after their Club World Cup win over Palmeiras at Mohammed Bin Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The Premier League did not generally allow a change to kits during the season but it appears that Thomas Tuchel's side have been afforded permission to wear it against the Eagles this afternoon.

Following their success in the 2019 competition, Liverpool were afforded the same opportunity in the first game.

Chelsea will, however, display it in the Champions League round of 16 game against Lille and it can be adorned until next season’s Club World Cup, but is also only allowed to appear on first-team shirts and banned from being used on training gear or retro shirts.

The Blues are also understood to have earned $5million (£3.68million) from the trumph.

The final however did cost them Mason Mount who misses today's clash against Palace after picking up an injury in the first half of the 2-1 win. Cesar Azpilicueta also misses this afternoon's match with a cold.
