  • Former President Barack Obama has announced that his and wife Michelle Obama's production company, Higher Ground, will transition to an independent operation.
  • Speaking Saturday in Philadelphia, Obama said he and Michelle are “very grateful” for launching with Netflix but that after eight years, they are currently “in the process now of transitioning to a more independent [company] where we can work with a bunch of different studios.”
  • Higher Ground has produced critically acclaimed films and series including Leave the World Behind, Rustin, and the Oscar-winning American Factory.
  • The company has also expanded its ventures into Broadway, co-producing the revival of Proof, which opened April 16 for a 16-week run.
