Traditional TV may be taking it easy in August as summer TV winds down and the fall TV slate prepares to roll out, but Hulu is keeping things rolling with an exciting slate of originals, classic TV shows and movies hitting the streaming service this month.

This includes the return of one of their flag-ship series, some 2024 new movies making their streaming debuts and more stand-up comedy specials to keep you entertained. You can find everything coming to Hulu in August below, but first we have some of our personal recommendations for the month.

Best movie on Hulu in August: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (August 2)

It's a good month for movies on Hulu, with new movies making their streaming debuts like Josh O'Connor's La Chimera and the Sydney Sweeney horror movie Immaculate, but headlining things is definitely the 2024 summer blockbuster Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. I am a long-time fan of this franchise and was admittedly a little nervous about how they would move forward without Andy Serkis. However, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is an enticing opener to a new chapter in the sci-fi story (plus it continues to look absolutely incredible).

If you're looking for some classic movies coming to Hulu this month, some of my top picks would be Knocked Up, The Mask of Zorro, Night at the Museum, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Woman King.

Best TV show on Hulu in August: Only Murders in the Building season 4 (August 27)

Only Murders in the Building season 4 premieres this month and it is bigger than ever. Literally, for the first time in the series they are leaving the greater New York metropolitan area and heading out west to Los Angeles, which will not only allow for the return of Meryl Streep but a plethora of new and exciting guest stars (Eva Longoria, Molly Shannon, Eugene Levy, Kumail Nanjian, Zach Galifianakis, Richard King and Melissa McCarthy). But of course, the mystery is still the big draw, which this season revolves around who killed Sazz?

Hulu has a handful of other original series debuting in August, including Dance Moms: A New Era and Reasonable Doubt season 2.

Best stand-up comedy on Hulu: Donald Glover (August 16)

Hulu continues to build its roster of stand-up specials on the streaming platform, this month adding a pair of Comedy Central Roasts from the 2010s, as well as classic specials from Wanda Sykes, Nick Kroll, Lewis Black and more. But we can't help but be intrigued by a Comedy Central half-hour special from Donald Glover from 2010. Many may have forgotten that the multi-hyphenate star, most recently an Emmy nominee for Mr. & Mrs. Smith, was a stand-up in his early days. So take a stroll down memory lane and watch a young Glover's stand-up skills.
