What Pep Guardiola said to Crystal Palace goalkeeper during 'heated exchange' after Liverpool title boost

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola appeared to be involved in a heated exchange after his side’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

Liverpool benefited most from the stalemate at Selhurst Park, with the gap at the top of the Premier League now four points with a game in hand.

The Reds are still due to play Man City at the Etihad Stadium on April 10, as the battle for the league title looks likely to go down to the wire. After the full time whistle was blown in south London, Guardiola went over to speak to Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

The pair appeared to be involved in a heated conversation on the pitch, but no audio was available to hear what either were saying.

However, a report in ESPN looks to have shed some light on what might have been said between Guardiola and Guaita.

When asked about the conversation, Guardiola was apparently unwilling to explain any further than saying he was “congratulating him (Guaita) for an incredible effort and his saves”.

Man City had 18 shots on goal during their draw at Palace, with Guaita making four saves across the match.

Liverpool have the opportunity to narrow the gap between themselves and Man City when they take on Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Should the Reds claim victory at the Emirates Stadium, then they would be one point behind Guardiola’s side with nine matches left to play.
