What Pep Guardiola has said about Arsenal's Bukayo Saka as Man City eye £58m transfer

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has previously hailed Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka as an ‘incredible young’ player amid rumours of a £58m move to the Etihad Stadium.

It has been suggested over recent days that both the reigning Premier League champions and Liverpool are interested in Saka, ESPN suggesting that the pair could be tempted to make a move should Arsenal fail in their pursuit of a Champions League position come the end of the current campaign.

Meanwhile, with the 20-year-old’s current contract expiring in 2024 it is thought that he could be sold sooner rather than later as the Gunners attempt to generate a fee for the youngster as opposed to losing him for nothing.

It remains to be seen whether City or indeed Liverpool make a play for Saka’s services in the summer but Guardiola has already admitted his admiration of the England star.

Talking after Manchester City’s 1-0 win against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in February last year, the Spaniard said: “With [Martin] Odegaard and especially with Saka they are a really tough opponent to play.

“They have incredible young, talented players and I see a bright, bright future for Arsenal.”

Saka has once again been one of the bright sparks for Arsenal so far throughout the current campaign.

After his disappointment for England at Euro 2020, he has hit back with seven goals and four assists in 26 appearances in all competitions.

It is thought that Arsenal would demand a considerable fee for the winger’s services should they elect to sell, with Saka currently valued at £58.5m by transfermarkt.

Arsenal icon Ray Parlour had previously predicted that City would be interested in taking him to the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking to talkSPORT earlier this month, he said: "You know [what’s happened] over the years, Saka must be on people’s radar all day long, a big side like Manchester City must be looking at him going, ‘he’ll improve our side.’"
