Cardiff residents have been sharing their own struggles in finding somewhere to live after the city's housing crisis was laid bare. A recent WalesOnline article shared the experiences of five people who had either been searching for houses for more than a year, or decided to leave the capital due to rising prices, and they are certainly not alone.
While Cardiff has long been regarded as one of the most affordable cities in the UK, the situation is increasingly bleak, with house prices growing twice as fast as wages in the past 15 years and the average home in the capital now costing more than £235,000. In real terms - when adjusting for inflation, the average annual wage in Cardiff has decreased by nearly 17% since 2006, while the average house price in the city has gone from £154,183 to £235,054 in 2021 – a staggering increase of 52.5% over 15 years.
