What moments we mark with a takeaway as award voting opens

Just Eat has announced voting is now open for its Just Eat Restaurant Awards, back for a seventh year. Formerly the British Takeaway Awards, they aim to champion the nation’s most-loved restaurants and the people who make them a success.

Marking their return, the food delivery app confirms its new judging panel of famous foodie faces, including fashion icon Gok Wan, British Chef and TV food personality, Andi Oliver, and TikTok sensation and Michelin trained chef, Poppy O’Toole (aka Poppy Cooks).

The launch comes as new research by Just Eat reveals takeaway Brits mark their happiest moments with a takeaway. Birthdays (46%), anniversaries (24%), moving home (18%) and early finishes from work (15%) all rank as some of the UK’s top milestone moments we celebrate with our favourite dishes. In fact, almost half (47%) of Brits claim their most special milestones wouldn’t be the same without a celebratory takeaway meal from their favourite restaurant and (47%) of Brits claim their most special milestones wouldn’t be the same without a celebratory takeaway meal from their favourite restaurant.

What’s more, despite the squeeze on household finances, over half of us (60%) agree that it’s important to treat ourselves in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis – with a fifth (19%) believing their favourite takeaways enjoyed at home feel like a ‘warm hug’ during these difficult times.

Not only do we turn to takeaway meals to reward ourselves, our favourite restaurants form a fundamental part of our community, as 1 in 5 of us (20%) admit that the best thing about ordering a takeaway is the ability to back and support a local business.

To champion the hardworking individuals behind Britain’s best food spots, food lovers across the UK can now vote for their favourite takeaway or restaurant in the Just Eat Restaurant Awards.

To capture the diverse range of cuisine on offer across the UK, alongside the Best Takeaway in Britain award, five brand new categories join the list of accolades including Best Newcomer, Best Vegan, Best Breakfast, Best Lunch and London’s Favourite Dish.

Victoria Gold, UK and Ireland Marketing Director for Just Eat commented: “There's no denying that food is at the beating heart of any celebratory moment or milestone. At Just Eat, we recognise how important restaurants are to our community - not only do they provide delicious meals, but they deliver joy at times when we need it most.

"Now, it's the nation's chance to vote for their favourite food spots and recognise the hardworking and passionate individuals delivering unforgettable food and going above and beyond. We're looking forward to seeing who is crowned the best of the best.”

Brits can vote for and celebrate their favourite eatery on the Just Eat Restaurant Awards Website and be in with the chance to win a £250 voucher. T&Cs apply.
