What Moises Caicedo has done after failed Arsenal transfer amid Brighton training decision

If Jorginho's deadline day move to Arsenal was the big one for Mikel Arteta's men then there's certainly still a deal that got away. Having chased Youri Tielemans for most of the summer before switching late on to Douglas Luiz, the Gunners haven't hidden their desire for a new midfielder.

The Italian midfielder's addition came as a late shock in January though. Perhaps due to the nature of the swap from Chelsea but also because his future appeared to be elsewhere and at the end of his contract.

Arsenal acted quickly once realising that Mohamed Elneny's injury was going to leave them short for the second half of the season. They had hoped to bring in Moises Caicedo from Arsenal but his failed move turned out to be one of the biggest sagas for a non-mover of the window.

The Ecuadorian was told by Brighton to not return for training after posting what appeared to be a goodbye message crossed with a plea to leave on social media after Arsenal's initial bid. The Seagulls remained firm in their stance though and no such deal was agreed.

Bids of more than £60m were both rejected swiftly by Tony Bloom, who was distinctly unimpressed with the whole process. Brighton value Caicedo at over £75m and were never in a position to be pressurised into selling in January regardless. Once a player signals their desire to leave it often makes things easier to move forward with but this was different.

Caicedo never missed training, he instead was instructed to remain away whilst the window came to a close. Brighton had a massive FA Cup fourth round clash with Liverpool to prepare for and didn't want distractions for the squad or the player. The 2-1 victory over the tournament holders signifies a correct move.

Now, with the month over and the time for transfers having passed for this season it turned to how Caicedo would respond. According to the Daily Express the player returned to training as planned on Monday. Brighton are in action against Bournemouth in a south coast derby on Saturday and Caicedo's involvement in that game will offer a new update on where he stands.

Regardless of the player's stance, Bloom and Brighton have grown frustrated at Arsenal according to reports and it could damage the chances of a move for Caicedo in the summer.
