What Mikel Arteta did during Leeds vs Arsenal after Chris Kavanagh and Jesse Marsch conversation

Arsenal moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League at the weekend following a 1-0 victory over Leeds United. A first half Bukayo Saka strike was enough to secure all three points for Mikel Arteta's side.

The Gunners were perhaps lucky to get the win, however, as Patrick Bamford had a goal ruled out and also missed a penalty at Elland Road. The game then ended in controversy after Chris Kavanagh awarded the home side a second penalty and sent off Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes, only for VAR to intervene and overturn the decision.

Speaking after the game, Arteta was clearly delighted with the result. "It’s always really tough coming here when you see the other results here this season. Extremely happy because we keep winning and you have to be able to win in any context," the Spaniard said.

The Sunday afternoon clash was a unique occasion for both sides, mainly because the game was delayed and then temporarily suspended due to a power cut at Elland Road. Reports suggested that a power surge was seen with a flickering of the lights just on kick off, with the game then being halted just after the first minute by the referee.

The initial issue appeared to be due to the communication equipment, however after 15 minutes of waiting, players and staff headed inside due to the power cut. While there were suggestions that the game could go on without power, the problems arose from the inability to use technology at the game. The match officials' communication gear, the VAR and goal line technology would all be out of action while the power is still down.

The players came out to warm up again after around 30 minutes, and the match eventually resumed roughly 40 minutes after the scheduled start time. Now, in a 'behind the scenes' video released on the official Arsenal website on Tuesday, we can see what happened during the delay.

Referee Chris Kavanagh can be seen speaking with Arteta and Leeds boss Jesse Marsch on the touchline moments after suspending play. The footage then shows the Gunners manager, alongside assistant manager Albert Stuivenberg, calling the Arsenal players over to the touchline, presumably to update them on the situation.

Arteta can be seen gesturing to his players, who formed a huddle, before they proceed to kick a ball around in an attempt to stay warm, just in case the match restarts. Of course, the players are then told to go back inside the dressing room before coming back out 25 minutes later, with the game restarting shortly after.

Leeds proved to be a tricky test for the Gunners, but it was one Arteta and his players ultimately passed. Now attention turns to Thursday night where Arsenal face PSV in the Europa League knowing a win will confirm their place in the knockout rounds.
