Arsenal stars Matt Turner and Takehiro Tomiyasu faced off against each other on the international stage on Friday when Japan played the USA in a friendly. It was the former that came out on top in a game they dominated, but only came away as 2-0 victors thanks to goals from Daichi Kamada and Kaoru Mitoma.
It could have been much worse for the USMNT had it not been for Gunners goalkeeper Turner, who made six saves to stop an even larger deficit. The official USMNT website pointed out that the 28-year-old was the "only positive" for his side in the match, giving him a rating of 6.5 out of ten.
In a tough game, the American faced 16 shots from the opposition, eight of those being on target. One of those was a low save to deny Kamada at the hour mark to keep the game at just a one-goal margin at the time.

At the other end, the Japanese defence stood strong, not allowing a single shot on target over the 90 minutes. With Tomiyasu playing at centre-back, he'll be looking to take such form into the next batch of club fixtures, having struggled to get in the side so far this season.
After the game, both Arsenal stars were seen meeting up to have a conversation before swapping shirts with each other. It continues a great atmosphere surrounding the club and the playing squad, even if both players are yet to get significant minutes at this stage.
Even before the game, Turner was full of praise for his teammate, saying: "I’m really looking forward to getting to play against Super Tomiyasu! We eat meals together from time to time. He’s an 8 out of 10 person, you know what you’re going to get from him everyday."
