What Mason Mount and Max Verstappen did in Monaco amid Todd Boehly's successful Chelsea takeover

Mason Mount and Max Verstappen have been pictured together ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix. The two respective world champions enjoyed a chat trackside ahead of what is set to be a definitive bout in the race for the 2022 Formula One World Championship title.

While Monaco is just the seventh race in the calendar this campaign, Verstappen tops the table with 110 points with four wins under his belt. Charles Leclerc, who has two wins to his name, follows close behind in second on 104 points, while Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez trails in third on 85 points.

Verstappen will be looking to extend his lead at the top, having enjoyed three successive race wins. However, despite looking amicable with Mount ahead of the clash on May 29, the Dutchman will be hoping he can retain his world title unlike the Chelsea midfielder.

This hasn't been the first time that the Red Bull driver has indulged himself in Chelsea's current affairs. In April, Verstappen questioned Sir Lewis Hamilton's involvement in Sir Martin Broughton's Chelsea takeover bid.

Hamilton's attempted involvement with the Blues came as a surprise to many due to the Mercedes driver's support for Arsenal from a young age. His rival, Verstappen, claimed that as a PSV fan he wouldn't dream of buying Ajax.

In an interview with the PA news agency, via The Telegraph, the Red Bull driver poked fun at his rival on the grid. Verstappen said: "I thought he was an Arsenal fan. And if I was going to buy a football club I would want to be the full owner and to take the decisions myself, not own just a tiny percentage.

"I thought he was an Arsenal fan? And if you are an Arsenal fan going for Chelsea, that it is quite interesting. But everyone does what they want with their money, so let's see what comes out of it."

Verstappen's jibe at his competitor came ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Just three points separated the two drivers, but the Dutchman is now 64 points ahead, leaving Hamilton in his wake.
