What Kieran Tierney said about Celtic transfer return as 'you can’t rule anything out' quip fuels rumour flames

A Celtic return for Kieran Tierney couldn't happen this summer... could it?

An eye-popping rumour has got Parkhead fans talking after claims that the Arsenal defender would consider a return to Glasgow on loan, with Brendan Rodgers possibly a key factor as he looks for the regular minutes he didn't get at the Gunners last season. Newcastle are said to be keen on him too but the North London side don't want to part with him, and could offer the full-back a new deal.

But talk of a Celtic loan has now emerged and it's got fans wondering whether the boyhood fan and club hero could make a sensational return, four years after leaving. A permanent deal is not going to be possible, with Tierney valued at £30million and earning £120,000 per week at Arsenal. But what has the man himself said about coming back to Glasgow one day? An interview with Tierney from last year has resurfaced, and he didn't shut down the possibility of one day making his way back to wearing the Hoops.

Speaking in October 2022 on BT's The Currie Club Tierney said: "I think when a player who loves the club leaves there's always that, 'what if he comes back' and you can't rule anything out. I'm always going to love Celtic.

"I'm always going to support Celtic so you never know in football, you genuinely don't. There was a stage I thought I would never leave Celtic.

"You never know what can happen like anything. You need to take it game by game."
