Jurgen Klopp expressed his delight at being reunited with Liverpool cult hero Divock Origi after the 4-1 win over AC Milan.
Although not named in Milan's squad for the Dubai Super Cup clash against his former club due to injury, Origi was present at the Al-Maktoum Stadium and could be seen enjoying an embrace with his former manager after the full-time whistle.
"It's so nice to see you," Reds boss Klopp told Origi, before later wishing the Belgian striker "all the best" for the rest of the campaign.
Origi made the decision to leave Liverpool and move to reigning Serie A champions Milan when his contract expired in the summer ending his seven-year stay at Anfield.
During his time at the club Origi was responsible for some of the most celebrated moments of Klopp's seven-year stint as he scored never-to-be-forgotten goals against Everton, Barcelona and, in the 2019 Champions League final, Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking before the Milan game, Klopp paid tribute to Origi: "I get really emotional hearing the name. I’ve not seen him yet. I think most of the things we’ve achieved in recent years wouldn’t have been possible without Divock Origi.”
Goals from Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantara and Darwin Nunez saw the Reds run out comfortable winners against Milan, who then won the mandatory penalty shoot-out 4-3.
Klopp said after the match : "We played a really good game. I liked how our midfield was connected, I liked our build-up because they surprised us a little bit with the system – I'm not sure they played it very often but because of their problems what they have with injuries they changed.
"So building up with three, we needed to adapt a little bit. When we did that, pressing was really good as well."
