What is the difference between the Ballon d’Or and The Best Fifa Awards?

The Ballon d’Or awards are dished out tonight as the best players of 2024/25 are celebrated at a glamorous Paris ceremony.

The Ballon d’Or awards were first set up by French magazine France Football in 1956. They are sometimes confused with the Fifa Best Awards, which were first held in 2017. They are a rebranded revival of Fifa’s World Player of the Year awards which began in 1991 and ceased in 2009.
