The North East has made some great TV shows over the years and now we want to find out what your favourite is.
This week has been a big one when it comes to local television. A day after Brenda Blethyn and Vera’s famous Land Rover were spotted on Newcastle Quayslde, shooting scenes for the new series of the ITV drama, came the shock news that Byker Grove is coming back.
Rebranded as BYKER, the reboot of the much loved CBBC show is being handled by Ant and Dec’s Mitre Studios, along with Sunderland based production company Fulwell73, with Ant and Dec in exec producer roles.

Form hard hitting dramas like Our Friends in the North, starring a young Daniel Craig, to comedies that have stood the test of time, like Auf Wiedersehen, Pet or real life series such as Geordie Shore and all the fuss it’s debut caused back in 2011, there have been so many programmes produced in the region and starring homegrown talent.
Just last week, Jill Halfpenny was spotted on set as new drama The Red King started production in Northumberland, with Jill of course another household name who got her first taste of TV fame in Byker Grove.
We’ve narrowed our poll down to 10, with a range of genres and eras covered.
Of course there are ones missing that could well have been worthy of a spot - namely When The Boat Comes In and Geordie Racer, while more recent hits include The Dumping Ground and Angels of the North, so if you have another choice, let us know in the comments below.
