Sinusitis, also known as a sinus infection, is a common condition characterized by inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining the sinuses. The sinuses are air-filled cavities located behind the forehead, cheeks, nose, and eyes. When the sinuses become blocked and filled with fluid due to inflammation, bacteria, viruses, or fungi can grow, leading to infection. Sinusitis can be acute, lasting less than four weeks, or chronic, lasting longer for months despite treatment.
