The Boston Celtics picked up Jerdarrian Devontae Davison — better known as JD — out of the University of Alabama with the No. 53 pick of the 2022 NBA draft, and despite the fact that there is little in the way of expectations for him to play for the Celtics in significant minutes this season, his upside as a prospect is not small.
Originally seen as a consensus five-star recruit heading into college, a rough freshman season playing for the Crimson Tide saw the Letohatchee native’s stock fall as a potential draft prospect. Despite this, Davison decided to bet on himself and declare for the draft anyway.
Still very raw, the Alabama product is very much an elite athlete with above-average passing vision in need of polish and reps.
Many analysts are hopeful the gamble on both his and Boston’s part for drafting him pays off, as he has a real shot at being an impact player at the NBA level.
