What is Justin Bieber's illness Ramsay Hunt syndrome and what are the symptoms?

Justin Bieber has had to cancel his upcoming performances this week after revealing is suffering from a rare virus known as Ramsay Hunt syndrome. He said it caused his face to be partially paralysed as he spoke about his health setback on social media.

The Canadian superstar said he has a 'pretty serious case' of the illness which causes the virus to attack nerves in the face and can lead to facial paralysis. And to help aid his recovery, Justin told fans he is doing facial exercises and is resting, Wales Online reports.

Speaking on Instagram, Justin said: "As you can see from my face I have Ramsay Hunt syndrome. And it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear, my facial nerves. It has caused my face to have paralysis."
