What is Casa Amor and when does it start on Love Island 2022?

Love Island has confirmed the return of Casa Amor for 2022. Each year the twist is announced by ITV bosses about half way through the series, and this year is no different.

At the end of the episode on Thursday, June 30, which saw three couples at risk of being dumped, presenter Iain Stirling teased the comeback of Casa Amor in the "tomorrow night" trailer, signalling fans will soon see the famous second villa on screens.

As the iconic flashing neon sign played at the end of the instalment, Iain told ITV2 viewers at home: "The wait is over. Casa Amor... is coming."

Typically, Casa Amor, which translates to Love House in Spanish, sees the introduction of a brand new line-up, with six new boys and six new girls joining the show with the aim of ruffling feathers and tempting the contestants away from their current relationships over the course of the week. While the Casa Amor line-up is yet to be announced it's likely to follow the same pattern as previous years.

The new contestants, like the original Islanders, are separated into two villas. Usually, the girls remain in the original villa, where they are joined by six new boys, and the boys are sent to Casa Amor, where they will meet six new girls.

The twist, which was introduced in 2017, is often the show's biggest test as relationships are pushed to the limit. Each year dramatic scenes unfold as couples are tested and new love is found.

After a few days the Islanders must choose to stick with their current partner or choose to couple up with a new contestant, without knowing what their other half has decided. Earlier this year an insider told The Sun that this year's Casa Amor "promises to be the most explosive yet".

They said: "Just when the Islanders start to get comfortable in their couples, they are going to get a real shock as they are torn apart. This year’s Casa Amor promises to be the most explosive yet thanks to some seriously fiery characters, who have already shown their heads can be turned."

Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
