The internet is going wild for a Negroni Sbagliato at the moment, all thanks to TikTok of course.
The video platform has established itself as a powerful trend starter, and the latest viral sensation on the app has got users buzzing about the unusual drink choice
It all started with a clip of House of the Dragon actors Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy posted to the platform by HBO Max.
In the video the co-stars discuss their favourite drink, with Cooke asking D'Arcy, "What's your drink of choice?", followed by D'Arcy's smooth response: "A Negroni. Sbagliato...with prosecco in it."
D'Arcy's accent and effortlessly seductive delivery in the the short clip quickly enraptured viewers, with one person commenting: "I’ve watched this 100 times just to hear Emma say "with prosecco in it".
While another added: "Emma's voice is like aged wine that's extremely expensive."
The clip has now racked up over 12 million views and the sound has quickly gone viral, already being used in over 19,000 videos.
As the clip continues to go viral, here's what a Negroni Sbagliato is as well as an experts guide to making one at home.
What is a Negroni Sbagliato?
A Negroni Sbagliato is a cocktail that puts a twist on the traditional Negroni by, as Emma suggests, adding prosecco to it.
Sbagliato, pronounced 'spal-yacht-oh' is an Italian word that means 'mistake'.
The Negroni Sbagliato was created in the 1970s by Italian barman Mirko Stocchetto at Bar Basso in Milan.
Stocchetto had been making a Negroni when instead of gin, he accidentally reached for a bottle of spumante, a type of sparkling wine.
The mistake led to the creation of the Negroni Sbagliato, which became the signature cocktail at Bar Basso and is still sold there to this day.
A Negroni Sbagliato is a bitter, fruity and bubbly drink that has a slightly sweeter taste to the classic Negroni.
How to make a Negroni Sbagliato
If you want to enjoy a Negroni Sbagliato yourself then the good news is that it's pretty easy to do and only requires a few ingredients.
Jason Milner, Food & Beverage Manager at the Peacock Bar at Elmbank Hotel, explains: "The Negroni Sbagliato is a delicious Italian cocktail based on the classic Negroni recipe, replacing gin with sparkling wine.
"It is often overlooked on drinks menus across the UK but is super simple to recreate if you want to make Emma’s signature tipple at home.
He added: "All you need is a 2:1:1 ratio of sparkling wine – we know Emma’s favourite is prosecco – sweet vermouth and Campari, that’s it!"
To make the drink, simply pour the Campari and sweet vermouth into a glass with ice and stir to chill before topping with the prosecco.
Finally, Jason said: "Don’t forget to serve it in a highball glass, gently mix it to keep the bubbles at bay, and garnish it with a wedge of orange for a true bar experience."
