Gabriel Martinelli applauded Kieran Tierney for winning the league title with Celtic - and crossed his fingers his old pal underperforms when Scotland face Brazil on Wednesday.
The pair joined Arsenal together back in 2019 and have been close on and off the pitch since. So it should make for an interesting dynamic at the World Cup when they go head to head.
Martinelli credits Tierney as one of his best friends in the game and still has fond memories of playing together at the Emirates before the left-back would eventually leave to return to Glasgow.
And the 25-year-old hopes that, aside from their game at the Miami Stadium, his mate continues to have success in the game.
"Yeah, he's my guy," the Brazilian attacker said. "When I got to Arsenal he came the same year. He's one of the best guys I've met in football.
"He's so kind and so humble as well. So rapid as well! We used to joke who was the quickest in the sessions, in my opinion it was him.
"He's a great player, he's doing well in Scotland now. They (Celtic) just won the league so happy for him. I hope he doesn't play so well against us I'm always cheering for him."
