What former Man City star Edin Dzeko did as Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku endures Inter nightmare

Edin Dzeko was spotted laughing at Romelu Lukaku for a nightmare first touch in Inter Milan's clash with Monza on Saturday. The former Manchester City star took great pleasure in the Chelsea striker losing possession while uncontested.

In the final minutes of the clash, the Italian giants were 2-1 up and they had a throw-in deep into the opposition's half. Eager to hold onto their lead, Robin Gosens threw the ball to Lukaku - just below the Belgium international's waist - so that he couldn shield the ball in the corner.

But the on-loan Blues striker miscontrolled the ball, losing possession in the dying embers of the tie. From the throw-in that Lukaku had conceded, Monza went on to equalise just a couple of minutes later via an own goal from Denzel Dumfries.

Prior to Monza levelling proceedings, Lukaku's calamitous first touch had Dzeko in stitches on the touchline. The Belgian's nightmare moment embodies what has been an underwhelming return to the San Siro.

Lukaku has featured just seven times for the Nerazzurri in the Serie A this season, directly contributing towards only three goals. The striker, who sees his deal at Stamford Bridge expire in 2026, is set to return to west London at the end of the season.

But, with Lukaku having already admitted that he doesn't see his prospects at Chelsea improving, a return looks unlikely. Speaking to DAZN Italia in August, he said: "The season at Chelsea gave me extra motivation to do even better than before.

"I think in a year people have forgotten what I can do on the pitch. This is a kind of anger that I have inside of me. When I left I had in mind to get a rematch with Chelsea. When I was young I was at Chelsea for eleven years and I wanted to come back to be a protagonist.

"After the last game I started thinking about what the best situation was for me. The season for me at Chelsea was difficult and I think things would not improve in the future and so I decided to come back here."

For many supporters, Lukaku has burned his bridges with Chelsea fans. But, as he continues to fail to impress, a permanent switch to Inter looks unlikely - and any more poor touches won't do him any favours.
