What energy grants and funding are available in your area as bills set to soar

Energy bills are set to sky rocket by April 1 as the price cap will rise by 54 percent.

On an average household bill, this will create an additional £693 per year.

For those on pre-payment meters, it will rise to £708.

While the UK Government has said a £200 energy bill 'rebate' will be included on all electricity bills, many remain concerned about how they will afford the rising costs.

As energy bills rise, so will the National Insurance rate and inflation, experts warn, could hit seven percent-which will also send food prices up.

Already Tesco bosses are warning that the 'worst is yet to come'.

While England will see a council tax reduction, local authorities around Scotland is expected to rise them by four percent.

The Scottish Government argue that council tax in Scotland is already lower than down south and more financial support is available.

According to Home Energy Scotland, there is a range of funding available for those in Glasgow.

In Glasgow, according to Home Energy Scotland, residents or landlords could be entitled to the funding below.

Renewable Heat Incentive

This scheme runs until March 30 2022.

Under this scheme homeowners that have installed an eligible system are paid for each unit (kWh) of renewable heat generated. Payments are made quarterly over seven years.

Private Rented Sector Landlord loan

As stated by Home Energy Scotland, The Private Rented Sector Landlord (PRSL) loan aims to support private landlords to improve the energy efficiency of their rental properties.

The loan offers funding to landlords for improvements to domestic dwellings in Scotland, which are listed on the Scottish Landlord Register and not used as a holiday or second home.

Those who own five properties or fewer in their portfolio can borrow up to £100,000 and those with six or more properties can borrow up to £250,000.

Smart Export Guarantee

The Smart Export Guarantee offers financial support for small-scale generators of renewable electricity who export to the electrical grid.

It requires energy suppliers with 150,000 or more customers to offer at least one SEG tariff and make payment to small-scale generators of renewables electricity.

HEEPS: Warmer Homes Scotland Scheme

Warmer Home Scotland helps install a range of energy saving measures in homes for vulnerable people who are struggling to heat the house.

The Scottish Government is offering assistance to home owners and private sector tenants.

To be eligible you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • Be homeowners or the tenants of a private-sector landlord
  • Live in the home as their main residence
  • Have lived there for at least 12 months (unless in receipt of a DS1500 certificate)
  • Live in home with an energy rating of 67 or lower and which is not more than 230 square metres in floor size
  • Live in a home that meets the tolerable living standard set out in the Housing (Scotland) Act 2006 or, where the home does not meet the tolerable living standards, this will not impact on the effectiveness of the measures recommended for installation under the scheme
  • Householders must not have received support for energy efficiency improvements through Warmer Homes Scotland funding in the last five years.

And at least one of these:

  • Be of pensionable age, have no working heating system and be in receipt of a passport benefit
  • Be aged over 75 and in receipt of a passport benefit
  • Pregnant and/or have a child under 16 and in receipt of a passport benefit
  • Have a disability and be in receipt of any level of Personal Independent Payment (PIP)
  • Have a disability and be in receipt of high rate Disability Living Allowance (DLA) (care or mobility component)
  • Have a disability and be in receipt of low/medium rate Disability Living Allowance (DLA) (care or mobility component) and be in receipt of an income related benefit
  • Be a carer in receipt of Carers Allowance
  • Have been injured or disabled serving in the Armed Forces and be in receipt of Armed Forces Independence Payment/War Disablement Pension
  • Have an injury or disability from an accident or disease caused by work and be in receipt of Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit.

Home Energy Scotland Loan

The Home Energy Scotland loan is an interest-free loan funded by the Scottish Government, intended to help make energy and money saving improvements to your home.

Depending on what improvements you want to make such as, energy saving, renewables systems or secondary improvements, determines what funding you will be entitled to.

There are also a range of financial support from the DWP if you are eligible.

You can still still apply for the Warm Home Discount until 31 March 2022.
