Don't Worry Darling is set in a 1950s experimental company town called Victory, where the men go to 'work' while the women stay at home, pamper themselves and practise being the perfect housewives.
Pop star Harry Styles stars in the movie as Jack, who is working on a top-secret project with the other husbands who live in Victory while his wife Alice, played by Florence Pugh, carries out household chores and living a life of luxury while refusing to speak of the Victory Project.
However, not all is how it seems in Victory as Alice begins to find out the truth of her husband's escapades when she notices a plane crash while on the bus.
But what does the plane crash mean in Don't Worry Darling and why is it a significant part of the plot?

What happens when Alice sees the plane crash?
The ending of Don't Worry Darling is rather ambiguous, with viewers left with multiple questions by the time the cinema lights come back on.
Alice is seemingly enjoying her new life in Victory before the plot twist begins to unravel when another wife, named Margaret, causes a scene at one of Frank's (the boss of the Victory Project and played by Chris Pine) glamorous parties.
In the movie, the wives tend to not talk of their husbands' jobs and they are told to stay in the community while their husbands go off to work at Victory Headquarters, where women are banned.
However, it is known that Margaret once ventured out to Victory Headquarters, where she found out what the project was actually about, with her son 'disappearing' during the scene in the desert with his toy red plane.
When Margaret is making a scene at the party over what she knows about Victory, she is taken away before Alice can speak to her.
The image of Margaret being taken away remains in Alice's mind and she gets on the local bus to clear her head.
As she is minding her own business on her travels, she spots a red plane which crashes into the desert where Victory Headquarters is based.
The bus driver refuses to take Alice to the crash so she takes it upon herself to travel to the desert on foot.
Alice reaches the HQ and the plane crash is nowhere to be seen, but she soon reaches the office window where she finds out the truth behind Victory.
What is the significance of the plane crash?
As the film progresses, viewers realise there is more to Victory HQ than just where the men go to 'work'.
The red toy plane is featured in numerous flashback scenes after Alice reaches HQ, which is a teleport back into the 'real world'.
Although it is not confirmed, it is possible that Margaret made it to HQ, touched the mirror and teleported back to the real world before she was trapped back in the simulation of Victory.
It is possible that Margaret's memory was then wiped before she was plugged back into the simulation, but as viewers saw with Alice, the memory wipe is not always successful.
It is thought that the toy plane and the plane crash that Alice sees is intentional, as Margaret could be sending a message to Alice to guide her to Victory HQ and the exit of the simulation.
The toy plane is also significant as Margaret's son went 'missing' while in the desert, as viewers soon understand that children are not real in Victory.
When Alice's memory is later wiped after she reaches Victory HQ, she receives an important call from Margaret, who asks about the plane in the desert.
It's possible that the gossip could have reached Margaret through the other wives, but it could also mean that Margaret had sent a message of the plane to Alice subconsciously.
A few scenes later, Alice watches as Margaret ends her own life, although it is not sure whether the character dies in real life or just in the simulation.
It is later revealed that when the men die in the simulation, they die in real life as Alice murders her husband when she finds out the truth about Victory once again, as she goes through several glitches in the simulation that jog her memory, including the plane crash.
At the end of the movie, Alice scrambles back to HQ to make it back into the real world after killing Jack. She reaches the mirrored window and the final scene ends with Alice gasping for breath as she reaches the other side.
