Cristian Romero will be returning to Hotspur Way a world champion after Argentina beat France in a dramatic World Cup final penalty shootout. A crazy 3-3 draw in 120 minutes saw the game decided on penalties with Gonzalo Montiel converting from 12 yards to crown Argentina as the new world champions.
Lionel Messi converted the opening goal from 12 yards after Angel Di Maria was felled by Ousmane Dembele. Di Maria then doubled his nation's lead in the 36th minute converting Alexis Mac Allister's pass.
Kylian Mbappe then stole the limelight with two goals in two minutes to drag France level and force extra time. Messi snatched the spotlight back with a 108th-minute goal but the contest was not decided yet with Mbappe scoring a penalty with two minutes to go in extra time.

Montiel's penalty saw Argentina crowned winners after Emiliano Martinez was the hero once again on penalties, saving Kingsley Coman's spot kick before winning the mental battle with Real Madrid's Aurélien Tchouaméni who fired his effort wide.
Despite France scoring three goals, Romero put in a tremendous shift for his country on the grandest stage at Lusail Stadium with multiple trademark challenges against Mbappe and Co.
Although Martinez was the penalty hero, Mbappe fired in three spot-kicks past the Argentina goalkeeper with his superb volley taking his tally to eight goals for the tournament, not including penalty shoot-outs.
The trio of goals from 12 yards scored by Mbappe in the final wasn't the only notable spot kick the 23-year-old was involved in at the tournament. Harry Kane had the opportunity to level France's quarter-final clash with England but sent his penalty over the bar with Mbappe's reaction causing quite the stir.
Many of the French players ran over to Lloris to celebrate but Mbappe instead was pictured laughing hysterically on the halfway line. Kane's Spurs team-mate Romero, whether it was his intension or not, then responded perfectly to Mbappe's celebration to Kane's miss by celebrating directly in his face following Messi's goal in extra time.
