What Chelsea star Mason Mount did with Phil Foden after England win Women's Euro 2022 final

How did you spend your Sunday, July 31 this year?

Many England supporters would have been part of the 87,192 contingent that packed out Wembley to witness history unfold in front of their own eyes. Yes, England and more specifically the Lionesses ended 56 years of hurt with an emphatic and dramatic victory in the UEFA Women's Euros final against the greatest of footballing rivals for this country in the form of Germany.

Substitute and Man United star Ella Toone opened the scoring midway through the second half with a perfectly timed chip after she was played through exquisitely by the player of the match Keira Walsh. Martina Voss-Tecklenburg's side hit back in the absence of their star player Alexandre Popp with Lina Magull picking up the mantle in the 79th minute with a near-post finish to drag this contest into extra-time at Wembley.

An extra-time period that was settled eventually in the 110th minute with Chloe Kelly's first ever international goal after the ball broke free in the box from a corner kick. At the second time of asking, the Man City forward poked her effort past Merle Frohms in the opposition goal to send the large majority of the crowd into euphoric raptures.

What made the occasion even more special was just how many star-studded celebrities, politicians and fellow footballers attended to see Sarina Wiegman's side make history on home soil.

One of those players was Three Lions international Mason Mount. The Chelsea attacker was in a jubilant mood like many others once Kelly's goal passed the nervy VAR check. In the celebrations, as well as cheering, the 23-year-old linked together with Man City's Phil Foden to show appreciation to the team that are destined to win the best achievement of the year at the next BBC Sports Personality awards.

As well as celebrating with his fellow international teammate in his corporate box at Wembley, Mount sent the team a message after the game on his Instagram @masonmount, reading: "Inspirational!!! You deserved this @lionesses! Congratulations!!"

Interestingly, the likes of Prince William, Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries and Mount's best friend Declan Rice were all present at the home of football to see Wiegman's side finally bring football home.
