What characters are in The Masked Dancer 2022 and when does it start?

ITV’s The Masked Dancer will premiere on Saturday September 3 at 6:30pm. This is the second series of the show to air in the UK, with footballing legend Peter Crouch joining the panel.

The family friendly show will see 12 twinkle toed celebrities hide behind a costume and take on an alter ego as they compete in the dance competition. Judges Crouch, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Oti Mabuse will then guess whose moves they’re watching.

The true identity of the famous faces underneath the flamboyant costumes will only be revealed once they're eliminated. There is no cash prize for the winner, however they will be handed a large trophy. Last year's winner was the Olympic gymnast Louis Smith.

The series will feature 12 incredibly bizarre costumes based on objects, animals, and characters - including one duo - who will be brought to life by the charismatic celebrities inside. Here's who you can look forward to seeing bust a move in just a few day's time.

What costumes are in The Masked Dancer 2022?

1. Sea Slug

Slugs aren't known for being the most agile of creatures. But could this sea slug slither its way to the final?

2. Onomatopoeia

What you see is what you get with this unusual character. Let's hope there won't be too much crashing and banging around the stage.

3. Pearly King

Could this Pearly King be giving us a hint in the name? We can't wait to see them get fierce on the dancefloor.

4. Pig

This Pig looks ready to foxtrot. But will they hog the dancefloor?

5. Cactus

We're expecting super sharp dance moves from this character. Cactus makes perfect.

6. Prawn Cocktail

7. Candlestick

With 70s flares and a Night Fever stance, we can already tell this candlestick has character. But do they have the moves?

8. Pillar and Post

9. Astronaut
