It's the Europa League Final that could've been had West Ham not been bested by Eintracht Frankfurt. But now Rangers and the Hammers will collide after all, albeit only in a pre-season friendly.
That doesn't mean this isn't an intriguing fixture, though, as David Moyes brings his Premier League stars to Ibrox. Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side are stepping up their pre-season preparations and this will be their sternest test of the summer so far, but one he will hope his players relish with places up for grabs.
He could hand more minutes to new signings after Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence and John Souttar made their first appearances in the weekend win over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road. The likes of Antonio Colak are also settling to life at the club and he's likely to get his first taste of Ibrox.
It's still pre-season, yes, but Van Bronckhorst's side have a Champions League qualifier against Union Saint-Gilloise on the horizon and the chance to test themselves against top level opposition will be invaluable in their bid to reach the group stage. And that's what Rangers will get when the Hammers come to Glasgow.
