It only gets tougher from here for Gio van Bronckhorst as Rangers look to restore some pride on a daunting trip to Naples after a damaging return to the Champions League stage.
After landing in the proverbial group of death, van Bronckhorst's men been fighting for their lives to try and even stay in games with zero points going into the penultimate round of fixtures. They were goalless in their first three group games but finally got off the mark through Scott Arfield against Liverpool - only to then ship seven goals for their joint-worst ever defeat at Ibrox.
The chances of guaranteeing European football beyond the New year are on a knife edge. But after a Scottish Premiership draw with Livingston on Saturday followed a lacklustre 1-0 win over Dundee in the League Cup, Rangers need to stamp their authority and bounce back against Napoli. Should they avoid defeat, and get a favour from Liverpool in the other game, they will go into next week's clash with Ajax with an outside chance of making the Europa League knockouts.
All of that is easier said than done, of course, with the Italian's top of Group A and also lie at the Serie A summit domestically as they search for their first league title in 33-years.
