Armagh will be hoping to maintain their 100 per cent start to their Division One campaign when they host Monaghan at the Athletic Grounds on Saturday evening.
Kieran McGeeney’s men caused one of the biggest upsets of the season so far when they defeated Dublin in Croke Park by five points in round one.
Yet, the Orchard County proved it was no fluke when they accounted for All-Ireland champions Tyrone in their second outing.
That six-point win was overshadowed by a late melee which saw referee David Gough issue four red cards to Tyrone’s Padraig Hampsey, Kieran McGeary, Michael McKernan and Peter Harte, as well as Armagh’s Greg McCabe.
All five players requested hearings in a bid to overturn their dismissals, but all five red cards were upheld.
Monaghan won their most recent meeting with Armagh when they clinched a dramatic penalty shoot-out win at the Athletic Grounds in the McKenna Cup semi-final before going on to defeat Donegal in the final.
The Farney also won last summer’s thrilling Ulster SFC semi-final clash between the pair, withholding a stunning fightback from Armagh to claim a 4-17 to 2-21 victory in Newry.
Seamus McEnaney’s side drew their Division One opener with Tyrone in Healy Park, but lost out to Mayo in Clones in round two.
