After the latest heatwave this summer, which saw Scottish temperatures peak at 30C over the weekend, concerns continue to be mounting over the lack of rainfall being experienced by the whole of the country. Scotland has seen its driest summer in nearly 80 years, leading to water resources being stretched to its limit.
The dry weather has made for a sorry sight to many stretches of luscious greenery, which have largely turned brown over recent weeks. The extreme heat is set to come to an abrupt end this week, as thunderstorms and lightning are forecast for swathes of the country, with Scotland getting its first taste of it on Sunday.
While the prospect of rainfall sounds like exactly the thing needed to end the drought, this will cause its own problems as the risk of flash flooding intensifies. A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms covers almost all of the UK on Monday, with disruptions to everyday life likely to occur due to possible flooding.
