The classic finger bun with pink icing and coconut on top - who does it best in Canberra?
According to Wotif's 2024 Uniquely Aussie Awards, the best finger bun in Canberra is from the Erindale Cakery Bakery.
The travel app has announced its latest awards.
Erindale Cakery Bakery was revealed as the ACT winner of the best finger bun.
The national award went to the Humble Bakery in Sydney.
And who makes the best sausage roll in the ACT?
That honour went to Three Mills Bakery in Fyshwick.
And while the ACT didn't win any of the national awards, the finalists can be proud of winning each of their categories.
The ACT winners were:
Best Finger Bun: Erindale Cakery Bakery, Wanniassa
Best Hotel Bar: The Howling Moon at Rex Hotel Canberra, Braddon
Best Lookout Point: Mount Ainslie Lookout, Canberra
Best Sausage Roll: Three Mills Bakery, Canberra
Best Regional Museum: National Museum of Australia, Acton
Erindale Cakery Bakery owners Clinton and Shubana Sheehan were over the moon to win best finger bun in Canberra.
"Look, it's pretty exciting," Clinton said.
"We don't sell a whole lot of them. They're a bit of of an old-school treat."
A staff shortage meant the bakery had been concentrating on its big-sellers.
However, Clinton said he would have plenty of finger buns on sale from Thursday morning at their bakery in the Erindale shopping centre.
His secret to making a prize-winning finger bun was simple.
"I use all-Australian, quality ingredients," he said.
"And it's also pretty much about having pride in my work. I think if you're passionate about something, you'll get a good result."
Clinton has owned the bakery for 14 years.
The Humble Bakery in Sydney used gourmet additions such as dried cranberries in its finger bun, which won the best in Australia.
Clinton said he wasn't against experimentation.
"At Easter time, we do 14, 16 varieties of hot cross bun," he said.
"For me though, at the end of the day, I like the good, old-fashioned finger bun or hot cross bun. We still do those and things like matchsticks and cream horns, which not many bakeries make anymore."
With nearly half (47 per cent) of Australians planning to travel over the spring and summer holidays this year, Wotif's awards are about encouraging people to discover hidden local gems, according to spokeswoman Rebecca Hurley.
"With thousands of entries across the six categories, the awards show Australians are eager to share their local travel favourites," she said.
"However, it is the classic sausage roll which caused the most debate, earning the title of the most voted category by Aussies."
Three Mills Bakery executive chef Bernd Brademann said he was proud to have Wotif awards crown its sausage rolls as the best in Canberra.
"We're thrilled to have our sausage rolls recognised in the Uniquely Aussie awards," he said.
"We're always striving to have the most incredible products and our sausage rolls are a great representation of the care and quality that goes into all our sourdough loaves and pastries.
"If people want to try the best sausage roll in Canberra as voted by this award, we're now in six locations and we bake everything fresh daily or they can grab a pack from our bake at home range to enjoy fresh from their own oven."
The team at The Howling Moon bar at the Rex Hotel were also ecstatic to be named best hotel bar in the awards.
Hotel spokesperson Nicola Pearce said it was a reward for all the staff's hard work.
She said the views from the rooftop bar drew people in but the cocktails, food and friendly staff convinced them to come back.
"I think it's a bit of everything," she said.
