What Arsenal are planning for players during the World Cup including Emirates Stadium match

Arsenal continued their impressive start of the season with a 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest which saw the Gunners return to the top of the Premier League table. Mikel Arteta's side have won 14 of their 17 competitive games so far this season which has included beating Spurs and Liverpool.

Annoyingly for Arsenal though all the momentum they've built up is set to be distinguished with the Gunners set to play only four more domestic fixtures before the season is paused for a month for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Many of Arsenal's stars will be heading to Qatar with their respective nations for the 2022 World Cup, however, some of Arteta's squad will remain in north London as players are unlikely to be picked by their country or their homeland perhaps not even qualifying for the tournament.

The Gunners are likely to lose Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Granit Xhaka and possibly the Brazilian trio of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes. However, Gunners captain Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney will remain, with their respective countries not in the tournament while Ben White is unlikely to be called up by England.

However, Arsenal will certainly be keeping those who remain at London Colney busy with the possible arrangement of three friendlies with discussions surrounding using the Emirates Stadium on December 17, the day before the World Cup final.

An alternative would see Arsenal play those planned friendlies in Dubai where they will be conducting some warm-weather training as the Evening Standard revealed in October.

While the plans for a possible game to be played at Emirates Stadium during the six-week break are unconfirmed, it would certainly provide excitement for Arsenal fans with the team then returning to Premier League action eight days later on Boxing Day against West Ham.
