Keys aren’t new to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, but if you skipped Shadows, you’re likely encountering them for the first time in Black Flag Resynced. While not integral to the core progression, Keys allow you to unlock new items and cosmetics across multiple Assassin’s Creed games.
Here’s everything you need to know about Keys in Black Flag Resynced.
What are Keys and how to use them in AC Black Flag Resynced
Keys are a currency that you can earn by playing Assassin’s Creed games and then spend on exclusive items. The Keys are shared across your account, allowing you to earn them in one game and then exchange them for gear in another. As of the Black Flag Resynced launch, there are only two games, including Shadows.
To spend Keys in Black Flag Resynced:
- Open the Animus menu (F1 on PC).
- Head to Exchange.
- Select the game.
- Select the item and purchase it.
In Black Flag Resynced, you can purchase items like Connor’s outfit from Assassin’s Creed III, on top of ship cosmetics, swords, and more. If you also play Shadows, you can also grab Tokens, materials, and mounts, depending on the rotation.
How to get Keys in AC Black Flag Resynced
The only way to get Keys in Black Flag Resynced is to play the game, as you can’t buy them. Collect Keys in the open world or complete different challenges and achievements in the Projects and Synchronization tabs of the Animus.
Open world
Keys are scattered across the Caribbean in Black Flag Resynced as collectibles. As you explore the world, the Keys show on the map with a triangle icon resembling the Animus logo. Use the Legend tab on the map to filter through discovered Keys and quickly collect them.
To collect the Keys, travel to the marker on the map. Keys look like a white cube with a logo in the middle. Interact with the cube to collect it. Each collectible grants 30 Keys, and there are plenty of them for you to collect.
Projects
Projects are free mini battle passes available in the Animus. By progressing through Projects, you can earn cosmetic rewards and resources for Black Flag Resynced or Shadows, and Keys. Each Project offers around 3,500 to 4,000 Keys.
As of launch, there are three Projects in Black Flag Resynced, and more will likely be added over time:
- Eye in the Dark : 4,000 Keys and rewards for Black Flag Resynced .
- Riptides : 3,500 Keys and rewards for Shadows .
- Undertow : 3,500 Keys and rewards for Shadows .
To progress through Projects, you must earn Data Fragments by completing Anomalies. Anomalies are marked on the map with the white stripe icon and can range from sinking corrupted ships to defeating corrupted entities. Anomalies award 700-800 Data Fragments and reset weekly.
Syncrhonization
Synchronization has a series of objectives for you to complete that award Keys. Objectives are grouped in three categories: Journey, Edward, and Dark Animus. Each category has sequences of objectives, and completing all objectives in the sequence awards 300 Keys.
Journey category has objectives tied to completing main quests and exploring the world. This includes doing naval contracts, completing Anomalies, solving puzzles, and more. Edward category has more combat objectives and side quests, while Dark Animus is also tied to the story.
