Morning everyone. Our top story sheds new light on the investigation into the Bondi terror attack. We have spoken with police and hotel staff in the Philippines, who say that the alleged gunmen spent their entire four-week visit to the country staying in the same city and did not venture far from their hotel.

We also have more heart-rending reporting on survivors and victims of the atrocity, and analysis on the political divides that have immediately appeared over the response.

Elsewhere: hackers have accessed Pornhub subscribers’ search history, Nick Reiner has appeared in court on murder charges for allegedly killing his parents, and we pick over the intriguing first day of the third Ashes test.

Australia

  • ‘She never gives up’ | The grandfather of one of the survivors of the Bondi attack has praised her for her bravery in rushing to protect young children coming under fire. Alex Kleytman, another member of the Jewish community attending Sunday’s event at Bondi, was not so lucky but his widow, Larisa, said the words of the 87-year-old Holocaust survivor live on through his writing.

  • Philippines clues | The Bondi terror attack suspects spent their entire four-week visit to the Philippines in Davao City, rarely leaving their hotel expect for an hour or so at a time, and never talking to any other guests or receiving visitors, according to Filipino police and hotel staff.

  • Albanese ‘responsible’ | Former federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg has claimed Anthony Albanese is personally responsible for the 15 deaths in the Bondi terror attack, as the prime minister lays the blame on “perverse ideology, a terrorist ideology”. And Andrew Hastie’s response to the Bondi attack shows how he has explicitly and repeatedly sought to link it to immigration.

Russian intelligence has targeted Belgian politicians to try to stop the transfer.
