What Adrien Rabiot has said about playing in England amid Manchester United links

Manchester United could move for Adrien Rabiot this summer and the French midfielder has already suggested he would be open to an Old Trafford move.

Erik ten Hag is exploring alternative midfield options amid growing frustration at how Chelsea are dealing with Mason Mount negotiations. United have tabled three bids - the latest worth around £55million - for the 24-year-old but look to have reached an impasse, with Chelsea holding out for a fee worth £65m including add-ons.

A shortlist of other midfield targets has been in the making for some time, with the Athletic reporting on Sunday that an approach has been made for Rabiot. The 28-year-old's contract at Juventus is set to expire this month, allowing United to potentially bring him to Old Trafford as a free agent.

Juventus remain hopeful they can come to an agreement over a new contract, but with interest growing in his services, face a challenge in keeping him. United will likely face competition for his signature but could have the upper-hand in being able to offer Premier League football.

"I have always said that I'd like to play in England in my career," Rabiot admitted during the World Cup. "I still have that desire. I'd like to evolve in the Premier League.

"I haven't got a Premier League team in mind right now. I haven't chosen a team or anything. It's a general thing. It's the league, it's the level of play that's going on, that's what attracts me most. It corresponds to my qualities."

United were keen on Rabiot last summer, at which point he had 12 months left on his contract at Juventus, but they were unable to agree on personal terms with the France international and moved on to other targets.

Despite uncertainty over his future, Rabiot has enjoyed a brilliant individual season at Juventus, registering an impressive eight goals and four assists in 32 Serie A appearances.
