Wetherspoon has officially taken over the premises of an Italian restaurant in Leeds, according to the building's former owner.
Sant' Angelo in Wetherby is now owned by JD Wetherspoon with couple Catherine Spence and Franco Del Buono vacating the premises after handing over ownership yesterday (Friday, October 7), the paper work complete. This comes as the pub chain giant has stirred up controversy in the 'conservative' North Leeds market town, with the locals split over the news with fears of drunken disorder.
Catherine has appeared to have confirmed the soon-to-be pub's new name with it reverting back to The Angel, as was expected. The premises operated as The Angel for many years before the couple took over and converted it into a restaurant.

Wetherspoon is now set to redevelop it once again, injecting £2.25 million into the refurb in a bid to create a pub which can employ 50 members of staff.
Catherine took to social media to tell people the news. Posting of Facebook, she said: "Just to let everyone know , we have vacated Sant' Angelo and JD Wetherspoon are now the proud owners of The Angel.
"Their plans are amazing and will bring the property back to its former glory and more, in particular I love what they have in mind for the outside area. It will be their flagship venue.
"Once again , thank you to the people of Wetherby and beyond for the support over many years and all the well wishes we’ve received.
"I’ll definitely miss the restaurant life, so many of our loyal customers and most of all my work family, but it’s time for me to hang up my apron and have an easier life."
The restaurant's former customers rushed to congratulate Catherine on her retirement and air their thoughts on Wetherspoon taking over.
Shirley Clubb said: "I’ve seen a lot of folk in Wetherby not happy about it being a Wetherspoon but at least the restaurant is going to be taken over rather than stood empty.
"I’m sure they will love the prices and endless refills of tea and coffee. Good luck, health and happiness in your retirement well deserved xx."
Lynda Rhodes said: "Enjoy your retirement, you deserve it. Being in the restaurant life is one of the hardest professions. Enjoy every minute you have together."
Leigh Cowell said: "It's so sad to see your now closed, Catherine. I have lots of happy memories of you and Sant' Angelo. Wishing you lots of love for your retirement."
