The seasonal West Nile virus is once again on prowl as counties across various states have registered a spike in number of positive mosquito samples. One of the leading causes of mosquito-borne diseases in the US, West Nile virus can cause mild as well as severe symptoms ranging from headache, high fever, lack of appetite to seizures and paralysis. West Nile cases usually witness an uptick during mosquito season, which starts in the summer and continues through fall.
Presence of virus in mosquitoes has prompted public health officials in the US to ask the public to stay vigilant about the symptoms. It is therefore important to follow all necessary precautions to contain mosquito breeding as well as avoid mosquito bites by wearing full length clothes that cover arms and legs.
