Three high school students from Linlithgow Academy were declared West Lothian’s ‘Languagenut champions’ - awarded by a national language learning resource company.
The language education company, Languagenut, ran the competition regionally in both Glasgow and West Lothian throughout the month of March.
The competition was split between primary schools and secondary schools in West Lothian - with the top school winning a prize - alongside the top 3 pupils in the language competition.
The Languagenut resource is accessible to students via an app or website, and supports young people in learning a modern language.
Pupils across West Lothian were ranked according to how many points they had accumulated on Languagenut by engaging with their modern languages programme.
First year Hanna Brindley came first in the competition - accumulating the most points in Linlithgow Academy and across all of West Lothian, she was followed by Eve Duffy in fifth year who came second, and Sara-Jane Shume in third year who came third.
The winners were awarded with the Languagenut West Lothian Champions of 2022 trophy and £30 each in Amazon vouchers.
Linlithgow Academy also was awarded by Languagenut for having the most pupils engaged with the programme, and for the most points in total across all participating schools.
Tracy Tripney, a modern languages teacher at Linlithgow Academy, said: “The kids were really enthusiastic about the competition and ended up getting really competitive with each other!
“The pupils were delighted to come top - they put in a lot of effort and definitely deserved it.”
