Shoppers at a West Lothian store have the chance to take part in an innovative ‘pass it on’ scheme to donate pre-loved items in the local community.
Homewares retailer Dunelm is trialling Home to Home in four stores across the UK - including Livingston.
Developed in collaboration with environmental charity, Hubbub, the scheme plans to offer customers a more meaningful way of passing on their no longer needed household items by inviting them to bring their pre-loved items directly into store, after which they will be sorted and re-distributed by community experts HomeAid, in their local area.
HomeAid West Lothian recycles used furniture and supports members of the community who face social and economic exclusion.
Willie Dunn, CEO of HomeAid West Lothian, said: “This is a superb initiative by Dunelm, these donations will allow us to create packs for people coming from homelessness and woman fleeing domestic violence.
“Sometimes it’s the smallest things that help people make a house a home and make them feel safe in their new environment.”
The Almondvale Business Park-based store is accepting pre-loved homeware items from any retailer including kitchenware and home decor items like clocks, mirrors, throws, curtains, cushions and small storage items.
Jemma Hain, Store Manager at Dunelm Livingston, added: “We’re delighted to be part of Dunelm’s Home to Home trial stores and to be able to provide our customers with an accessible solution to see their no longer needed homeware items purposefully recycled, as well as supporting local families and individuals.”
The Livingston store is also hosting a free swap, buy-and-sell add on to its Facebook Community group which will allow members to swap or buy/sell pre-loved items online.
