Recycling centres will be open to vans or pickup trucks at the weekend in West Lothian as part of a new trial this summer.
At the moment vans and pickups are banned from the five sites at weekends, as part of broader rules to prevent dumping of trade waste. Tighter new rules at the five sites will also restrict access to only local people.
The changes come on the back of a motion raised by the SNP councillor Pauline Clark in January. She pointed out that access for many families to the recycling centres was barred on the weekend . Around 30 per cent of vans sold are now used for non commercial uses.
