West Lothian's army of dedicated volunteers recognised at special celebration

West Lothian’s army of dedicated volunteers were given a pat on the back at an annual event acknowledging all their hard work.

The West Lothian Volunteer Network (WLVN) Volunteers’ Celebration was held recently at West Lothian College.

Volunteer certificates were presented by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Reverend John Povey, and there was a free raffle, entertainment, afternoon tea was enjoyed and guest speakers were invited.

The WLVN is made up of many members and organisations across West Lothian and was established in 2013.

Members can dip in and out as they wish, however, there are always about five core members at all times.

This year’s celebration subgroup was made up of six members including Ann Holloway (CGL, West Lothian Recovery Service), Rosie Bunce and Maureen Colquhoun (Macmillan @ WL/Advice Shop), Lesley Balaj (Bridge Community Project), Lisa Callaghan (HomeStart) and dedicated volunteer, Tracy Kerr.

Ann said: “WLVN was set-up back in 2013 to provide support to local volunteer managers and coordinators.

“We are an informal group that works together in partnership with each other, also volunteering a lot of our own time.

“We initially wanted to do something to show our appreciation of our volunteers and decided to plan a thank-you event for all West Lothian based volunteers and this is where the celebration comes from.

“Over the last nine years it has grown and is now enjoyed by many volunteers and member organisations.

“The WLVN, annual Volunteers’ Celebration is an important event, allowing us to engage directly with our wonderful volunteers.

“It gives us an opportunity to bring everyone together, to connect and say thank you for all you do and the time they give.”

Ann continued: “There’s no hiding that it’s been a difficult and challenging couple of years for everyone but, finally, we are here to say thank you and to let you know that each and every one of you are truly valued, appreciated and that our groups and organisations would not be the same without you.

“So, thank you all for choosing to give your time to volunteer and make a difference.”
