A convicted killer and serial thug was jailed again on Thursday after injuring a prison officer with a metal flask.
Dean Haddow was already serving a sentence for strangling two former girlfriends when he hurt Mark Murphy during a melee at HMP Addiewell, West Lothian.
Haddow, 30, pleaded guilty to throwing the flask into a crowd of people in the jail, striking Mr Murphy on the head.

He appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court after earlier admitting culpable and reckless conduct during the incident on January 9 2021, and causing the flask to strike the officer to his injury.
Haddow’s not guilty plea to deliberately assaulting Mr Murphy by striking him on the head with the flask by throwing it at him was accepted by the prosecution.
His lawyer Gregor Jarrett revealed that Haddow was currently on remand in respect of a petition for allegedly causing a disturbance and was due to stand trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court for a similar offence on 4 April.
He said: “He finds himself in a cycle of addictions and he is routinely in and out of prison as a result of that.. His position remains that he needs help.
“On his initial release from the sentence he was serving he did display positive signs of engagement with pro-social activities but his temptation to addictions overcame him and led him to this position.
“I think he is a man who, without help, will continue to offend in this way. He will continue to serve sentences which, while punishing him, don't seem to be making any progress with his rehabilitation.”
Passing sentence, Sheriff Douglas Kinloch blamed Haddow's addiction issues in relation to illegal drugs for his repeat offending and said he had given him a chance to mend his ways.
He said: “You were assessed in the background report as posing a high risk of further harm to the public.
“Despite that, in the hope that you had turned a corner, I deferred sentence to see if you would engage with the authorities and for you to be of good behaviour.

"But it hasn’t worked out, because you have now been remanded on two other matters.”
He added: “In my view there is no other option now but for me to impose a sentence of imprisonment.
“Although a prison officer was hurt in this, you didn’t intend to injure him.
"You just threw this metal flask without care so the sentence will be 81 days – just under three months – from today.”
At the time of the flask incident Haddow was serving a two years, 10 months sentence imposed at Hamilton Sheriff Court in April 2019 for throttling two ex-girlfriends.
On each occasion, a court heard, drunken Haddow flew into a violent rage because his victims refused to give him money to buy more drink.
His long list of previous convictions includes one for the culpable homicide of his half-brother, Stephen Gormley, in Cambuslang, Glasgow, in April 2010.
Grieving father Haddow, then just 17-years-old, attacked and killed Mr Gormley after he made comments about his dead baby.
Ironically, the day before he punched and kicked his 32-year-old sibling to death he had resuscitated him when he became unwell and stopped breathing.
A court heard that Haddow – who was living with Mr Gormley at the time – had followed instructions from 999 call handlers to keep him alive until paramedics arrived.
Haddow was originally charged with murder, but his plea of guilty to a reduced charge was accepted by the Crown.
After he was sentenced to four years and three months for the culpable homicide he went on to commit numerous further offences.
Other convictions included threatening to shoot a former girlfriend and punching her male friend for which he was jailed for two years and 10 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court April 2019.
