The West Indies' tune-up for their Frank Worrell Trophy clash with Australia is continuing in Canberra, with the visitors slowly fighting back against the Prime Minister's XI.
Bowling first, they looked in trouble when the PM's XI were 0-134, but picked up three scalps late in the second session to get back in the contest with the hosts 3-198 at dinner.
Australia Test hopeful Marcus Harris and fellow opener Matt Renshaw put on a century partnership before the former fell for 73, slashing at a wide Jayden Seales ball and finding second slip.
Renshaw also fell short of a century, edging Raymon Reifer through to the keeper for 81 after a classy innings including 10 boundaries.
Last season's Sheffield Shield player of the year Henry Hunt had been hoping to further enhance his reputation as a future Test batter, but fell for a cheap 13 with a loose shot caught off Kyle Mayers.
The PM's XI dominated the first session, reaching tea at 0-93, but West Indies claimed the honours in the second courtesy of their three wickets.
No.4 Peter Handscomb copped an Alzarri Joseph bouncer to the helmet early in his innings but batted on and reached dinner at 25 not out.
Seales (1-33), Reifer (1-38) and Mayers (1-6) have wickets, but West Indies will need more from frontline quicks Kemar Roach (0-29) and Joseph (0-44).
Harris, the only PM's XI player in Australia's squad for the first Test in Perth next Wednesday, will be kicking himself for missing out on a century that could have kept him in the selectors' thoughts.
He is unlikely to feature in that match, with Usman Khawaja and David Warner set to fill the opener slots.
Harris, who averages 25.3 across 14 Tests and was dropped from the line-up midway through last summer's Ashes, has made 288 runs at 41.1 for Victoria this Sheffield Shield season after thrashing 726 at 42.7 for Gloucestershire in county cricket over the northern summer.
